CELEBRATING LIFE AND LOVE WITH PAULINE PARRY, CEO, BRILLIANT STUDIOS LA & GOOD GRACIOUS! EVENTS
One could only imagine the lifestyle of a hospitality guru and catering queen in Los Angeles, CA. For 25+ years Pauline Parry, owner of Good Gracious! Events has been celebrating life, love and the pursuit of more Red Wine! It was only fitting that in 2009 she decided to team up with photographer William Henshall to become co-owner of Brilliant Studios LA. For a woman who surely knows how to throw a party, she reflects on the importance of photography over the years that has become an integral part of her business, her life, and most importantly journalizing the art of each celebration!“To anyone hiring a professional photographer, I always tell people the importance of including an album so you have something to keep in memory of that special occasion. Whether it is a wedding or a special celebration – I find myself making an album or collage of the party. On such occasions, we all take special care with our appearance and are usually looking our best so why not capture that time when you have a professional on hand to take the moments for you to shine as well!”
Chatting about things one might not know about the fabulous Pauline Parry, I myself learned a thing or two! Many people in the event industry have experienced her energetic personality, great sense of humor, and love for people. As an incredibly well-accomplished, award winning designer, she holds such an inspirational creative talent in the event world . But behind all the pretty flowers, fancy hors d’ouevres, creative partners, entertainment, books, and photos – to her it’s not just a job….it’s a lifestyle!
If you’ve ever had the pleasure of dining with the Parry’s in their lovely home, you can feel the hospitality just walking through the door. From dinner parties to tequila happy hours, the celebration of each and every day, Pauline loves to share “her world” with her guests, and she carries that theory through each and every event she produces.
UP CLOSE & PERSONAL – 15 THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT PAULINE PARRY…
1.I keep a journal of all dinner parties: the date, guests, the menu, wines we drank and any other detail that made it extra special. If we have the same people over again it sparks a thought “oh what should I serve “ Quite often guests bring wine and we actually do not usually drink that selection unless requested. We always write on the label who brought the wine and my husband and myself enjoy some other time and of course have fond memories who gave it to us.
2. I love noise well not really noise but probably sounds that create the feeling that I’m not alone…if people aren’t around when at home, I will immediately turn on music throughout the house, maybe turn on the television with no sound just so I can see movement and I LOVE the fountain on my patio. Even in the winter when I have a fire lit I will open the windows so I can just hear the fountain.
3. One of my favorite things to do is to bring people together around the dinner table and watch the dynamics and all the fabulous great uncensored conversation!
4. Who would of guessed but I have a Tequila Library in my home with probably 100 or so different tequila’s not ONLY do I like the content of what is in these bottles but the shapes, colors and designs – LOVE that!
5. If I was asked “what would be your last meal” ummmmm I think it would be as simple as crunchy potato chips with sea salt and of course red wine!
6. I’m a magazine junky and sadly do not read books too much anymore – I read anything to do with life style and cooking content…..I also LOVE spotting celebrities. Joanne my daughter and Lauren my daughter in law will text or twitter each other when we have such a sighting! So much fun.
7. As I have said really do not like being alone too much however, I love shopping for cloths by myself.
8. I have a weakness for glassware (any shape, any form, any color, design) My biggest problem is walking into any home store and fighting the urge to buy more stemware!
9. If I were rich…I would hire a full time driver and they would then check my tires, fill the car with gas and keep it all lovely and shiny……LOVE that!
10. One of my favorite indulgences is to have a manicure and pedicure as often as I can at Hands On Spa in Beverly Hills. Especially on a Sunday afternoon where they also indulge me with a glass of wine to complete the experience.
11. If I need an escape from work, I love going to see a movie by myself. And having a small bag of popcorn.
12. I love and collect pop-up books. It is something about the three dimensionality that make it come alive when you open page by page I always seem to smile or say wow as I open each page…..simple I know. I am going to get myself a pop up birthday invitation made one of these birthdays – LOVE it!
13 Okay this is aging me, but I am one of the original members of the “Beatles Fan Club” – I still own all their original albums (probably know every word of every song) I have ALL the Beatles Monthlies and the original Fan Club Letter that was written on a typewriter. Yes I was that screaming, crying girl!
14. I also found myself in the last ten years or so collecting snow globes, it started out by picking one up from wherever I might be for the memory and then it took over from there. I have Christmas, department stores, cities, countries I even have snow globe champagne flutes and little knives with a snow bubble. My husband found him self building me shelves to house them all so I can see them at all times…a nightmare to dust but so lovely to see.
15. When the sun goes down – whether I’m working, riding in a car, at an event…I always stop and take a moment to enjoy this time of day! It’s the most perfect time …the calmness, the magic, it makes me say “ahhhhh!” It may even be my favorite time to Tweet, So I can share the moment!
“ I always tend to go a fraction over the top with anything I do, I want people to experience the full effect of my “own world.” There’s always something that can make every experience a bit better, and will go there as I refuse to compromise!”
Pauline released her book “Food, Fun, Love” last year, a glimpse into many of her fabulous and fun events, with brilliant photographs that journalize many ideas and inspirations. It captures Pauline in some of her favorite entertaining moments. “In fact, the first chapter was dedicated to me entertaining in my home! This book is like an album I can share with my children’s children, and many generations to come.
“Entertaining for me is a lifestyle – it’s why I do what I do! Photography really makes the magic of my creations come to life! I look back at photos through many years of events, they are filled with memories, emotion and the pleasures of what life has brought to us!” and I am grateful I have the photos to remind me of all these wonderful times.”
